When viewed with the spire upright, a dextral (Latin: dexter, right) shell’s entrance is on the right. Sinistral, which means “sinister, left,” is the opposite. This is in line with how right-handed screws are described in physics and engineering. The majority of sea snail species are dextral. Rare individuals of a species that is generally dextral may develop sinistral coiling.
The original identification of Dakshinavarti Shankh is necessary because a phoney conch would not be advantageous. Rarely seen and available in a variety of sizes is the original Lakshmi Shank. It has three to five ridges and appears milky white. Brown lines that go along the right side of the Dakshinavarti Shankh’s neck. It has a “opening on the top,” in contrast to other regularly encountered conches.
