Krishna R A revered Hindu conch known as Dakshinavarti shankha is also known as Valampuri shankhu and Sri Lakshmi shankh. It refers to an unusual reverse-turning spiral on the shell of a giant sea snail from the Indian Ocean (Turbinella pyrum species).The siphonal canal (spout) of the shankha is held with the spout pointing upward; its spiral twists rightward as opposed to the more typical form’s leftward twist.
