Hindu art frequently features the shankha alongside Vishnu. It is a representation of water and is linked to serpents (Ngas) and feminine fecundity. The shankha is the state emblem of the Indian state of Kerala and served as the national anthem for both the Kingdom of Kochi and the Indian princely state of Travancore.The shankha, one of the eight Ashtamangala auspicious symbols in Buddhism, symbolises the omnipresent voice of the Buddhadharma. Its name in Tibetan Buddhism is “dung kar”.
