The sambalpuri weave is a bandha or ikat yarn tie dye textile of Odisha which is most popular for its culturally significant motifs inspired by the locals. These sarees come to you directly from the western clusters of Odisha at Bargarh, Barpali, and Sonepur. Each motif is designed symbolically derived from mythology, the coastal environment and the contexts of marriage and worship that is strongly believed in this part of the country. The sarees from Sambalpur- Orissa, often called Sambalpuri sarees are famous for their Ikat work called Bandha. The bright splashes of colors in the warp and weft of Sambalpuri Ikat have distinctive flaura and fauna motifs as well as temple patterns drawn mainly from the Konark Sun temple and the Jagannath temple of Puri. Orissa Ikat is known for its curvilinear designs.The Sambalpuri sari is made from fabric woven on a hand-loom and is popular throughout India.
